Throughout National Goodwill Industries Week, May 5th – May 11th, Goodwill Industries-Knoxville is hosting several different events to invite those in our community to celebrate with us and learn about our mission of providing job training and rehabilitation services for people with barriers to employment. On May 10th, Goodwill will present a job/resource fair at the 5307 Kingston Pike location. Several local employers and educational institutions will be there to discuss their organizations as well as potential employment and educational opportunities. The public is welcome to attend the job fair. Along with the job fair, Goodwill Industries-Knoxville has been working in conjunction with the University of Tennessee to set up a material drive to help spread our mission. The first material drive, the University of Tennessee Summer Send Off, will be April 26th to May 11th. This event will allow students to lighten their moving load and contribute to a good cause as they leave for summer break. The college isn’t the only school Goodwill is working with during Goodwill Week. Partnering with the Knox County schools, the 26th Straight from the Heart Sack Pack material drive kick off will be May 10th at A.L.Lotts Elementary. The material drive will be held from May 13th through the 17th. Students are encouraged to bring a bag of goods to be donated to Goodwill. Participating students will receive coupons for American Museum of Science and Energy, McDonalds and the Tennessee Smokies. The proceeds generated from the donations collected during these material drives will go to further our mission of providing job training and rehabilitation programs for those in our community who have obstacles that hinder them from entering competitive employment.
