Utah State track & field athlete Devin Wright was named to the Capital One College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District VIII track & field/cross country first-team.

The sophomore from Monticello, Utah maintains a 4.0 grade point average majoring in biology. Wright joins Brigham Young’s Mark Carlson as the only men’s athletes from Utah to be named to the District VIII team.

Wright has competed in eight javelin events during the 2015 outdoor season, capturing first place in three of them. He recently competed in the Mountain West Outdoor Track and Field Championships, where he placed fourth in the javelin with a throw of 59.35m (194-09). His best throw of 63.61m (208-09) places him at #8 on USU All-Time Top Ten.

Wright was one of 16 Aggies slated to compete in the First Round of the NCAA Outdoor Championships, which took place May 28-30, in Austin, TX.

The Academic All-District teams are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada.

First-team Academic All-District honorees advance to the Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected next month.

District VIII is made up of schools from Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington and Canada.
