Several local student athletes have combined success in the classroom with success on the field. They were honored for their efforts by being named to Academic All-state teams for fall-season sports by the Utah High School Activities Association.

Stetler Shumewy and Taj Eldredge were leaders on and off the field for the San Juan High School football team, which brought home the state championship trophy.

Kelsi Meyer helped the San Juan Bronco volleyball team return to a familiar position at the top of the heap as the Broncos earned another state championship.

Macee Nielson capped a wonderful high school career with the individual state championship in girls cross country. She is joined on the academic all-state team by teammate Loren Randall.

The San Juan cross country teams brought home the second place trophy in both the boys and girls team competitions. They were led by Katie Hiatt on the girls team and Hans Hurst and Ty Hosler on the boys team.

Devin Wright led the Monticello High School football team to a spot in the state semifinals and a position on the academic all state team.

Abigail Chadwick helped lead the Monticello volleyball team to another strong season and a fifth place finish in the state tournament.
