December 19, 1937 ~ Sepember 3, 2009

Alberta Johanna “Beppy” Krommenhoek Gibbons was born December 19, 1937 in Utrecht, Netherlands, to Jan and Mathilde Krommenhoek. She was the fifth of nine children. Many early memories were set against the backdrop of World War II in occupied Holland.

After the war, she and her family joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. At 17, she migrated to the United States. She worked as a dental assistant and airline stewardess prior to marrying Dr. De Lamar Gibbons in the Logan Temple December 15, 1960.

Their first few married years were spent in Lewiston, UT. They then moved to Blanding, UT where they lived until 1982. After stays in Washington, DC; Indianapolis, IN; and Grace & Kellogg, ID, they retired Blanding in 1998.

She passed away at home with loved ones by her side after a long battle with cancer.

Beppy‘s active life was filled with watching over family, numerous artistic hobbies, and an active role in politics. She was national committeewoman during the 1976 presidential campaign. She also served on the National Presidential Scholar Committee under Presidents Reagan and GHW Bush. She sold real estate while living in the Washington, DC area.

Beppy never stopped learning new things and trying new adventures. She loved growing things and wielded a mean water hose. Her home, and the homes of her children, are decorated with items that she needle pointed.

During her “Grandma” years, she started painting ceramics. This led to a newfound love of painting, which she excelled at and enjoyed right up to the time she passed away.

Another favorite activity she discovered was riding ATVs with close friends.

She is survived by her husband, children Charlotte, Grant (Bonnie), Robyn (Mark) Evans, Mignon (Kent) Clegg, Gregory (Sheila), 19 grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter. She is preceded in death by parents, sister Maaike, and grandchildren Adrienne Clegg and Benjamin Gibbons.

Funeral services begin at 10 a.m. on Thursday, September 10, 2009, at the Blanding LDS Stake Center. Viewing is Wednesday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at San Juan Mortuary. Burial in Logan UT Cemetery on September 11.
