The San Juan Broncos kicked off their Region 15 schedule with a pair of wins last weekend, January 6 and 7. The Broncos defeated the Gunnison Valley Bulldogs on Friday the 6th, 67-48 and then followed it up with a victory over the North Sevier Wolves by a score of 66-58 on Saturday the 7th.

The Bulldogs came out firing on Friday night as they jumped out to a 7-0 lead early in the first quarter. A well-timed time out by Coach Ryan Nielson was all it took to settle the Broncos down as they finished the quarter with a 12-5 run, resulting in a deadlock at 12-12 after one quarter.

The game remained close throughout the second quarter but the Broncos were able to build a small lead as they outscored the Bulldogs 14-11 in the second giving San Juan a 26-23 lead at the half.

San Juan has dominated the second half of games this season, especially in the third quarter, outscoring their opponents 202-129 through twelve games.

Friday’s game was no exception as the Broncos posted 22 points while holding the Bulldogs to 13 in the quarter, extending their lead to 12, 48-36. San Juan finished Gunnison off in the fourth quarter outpacing the Bulldogs 19-12 over the final period to secure a 67-48 win.

The Broncos stepped up their defense in the second quarter, holding the Wolves to 6 points while they put up 15 points themselves leading to a three point lead at the half, 35-32.
