June 3, 1936 ~ September 26, 2013

Charlie Eddy Sanchez passed away in Moab, UT on September 26, 2013 after a long battle with cancer.

He is the son of José Benito (Ben) and Maria Elaria Gonzales Sanchez (Miss Lee). He was born in Gallina, Rio Arriba, NM, on June 3, 1936, the fifth child in the family.

The Sanchez family moved around a lot: from Gallina, NM to Blanding, UT; to Durango, CO; and back to Blanding. Charlie’s father Ben first came to Blanding on a wagon train in 1912 with his father, Elogio.

Charlie considered Blanding to be his hometown. As a young man, he had several jobs in the area, including the uranium mill in Monticello, and the mines in Moab. He married Delores Chacon and had three sons, Charlie Bill Sanchez (Moab), Manuel Sanchez (Ogden, UT), Julian Sanchez (SLC).

Charlie then married Mollie Mestas of Ogden, UT. He liked to listen to Spanish music and dance. He also liked to hunt, fish, camp and visit with family and friends.

He loved his sons, grandkids, brothers, sisters and all his family members. He was a big Denver Broncos fan.

The funeral mass was held at St. Pious X Catholic Church in Moab.

Survivors are Mary Jones (Moab), Joe Sanchez (Roy, UT), Andy Sanchez (Cortez, CO), Carrie Rash (Continental Divide, NM), Gilbert Sanchez (Bloomfield, NM), Dorthey Mitchell (Blanding), and Cicilia Atwood (Hobbs, NM) and seven grandchildren.

Charlie is preceded in death by his parents, brother Ernie, and sisters Virginia and Margaret.
