Dowell was a four year varsity starter in basketball, making the Tribune first team and Deseret Morning News third team as a sophomore, Tribune second team and Deseret Morning News honorable mention as a junior, and the first team in both papers as a senior. She was the team captain, team MVP, and was named to two All star teams.
In the Utah 1A All-Star game last week, she scored 13 points while leading the South to a 58-49 win over the North All stars. She also was Academic All-State in basketball.
She is competing in her fourth season of high school track as we speak, including two years as team captain. In discus, she was third at Region as a sophomore, and was region champ and second in the state as a junior. She was also second in region in the javelin last year.
Wait, there’s more. Having a little free time, she even tried her luck at softball her sophomore year. Most noteworthily, Ashley has proven her worth as a leader in school, academics and on the playing field. She has been team captain of her volleyball, basketball, and track teams, a 2007-08 Wendy’s High School Heisman State Finalist, sports a 3.997 GPA, was the Sterling Scholar Runner-Up in Mathematics, received a Alto Saxophone Superior Rating at the 2008 Region Music Festival, and is the 2008 MHS valedictorian. Wow!
