I, Doug Allen have had the privilege of serving as your Mayor for the past four years and as City Councilman for six years before being elected Mayor. I’m running for re-election of your Mayor for the sole purpose of continuing to serve you, the good citizens of Monticello.
My wife Chris and I have been married now for 37 years, have 7 children and 10 grandchildren. We both grew up in Salt Lake City and first moved to La Sal, Utah as newlyweds. We moved to Monticello in 1977, left for six years living in Farmington, NM, and returned to Monticello, purchasing Blue Mountain Foods in 1987. I have a great love for Monticello and San Juan County. It is a beautiful area and the people are great. I was raised in Salt Lake, but San Juan County is home.
My background is in business and has been since I was 16 years old. I have been a business manager for three stores, for Frito-Lay, Inc., and of course 23 years as owner/operator of Blue Mountain Foods here in Monticello. I understand business, I know what it takes to be successful in business and feel this background is very valuable when dealing with the business of City Government.
I feel that I have brought a great deal of positive change to our City during the past few years. We have a more open, transparent, fiscally responsible government. We still have areas we need improvement, and have lots more to accomplish.
While serving as your Mayor and City Councilman, I have been able by serving on many boards to help Monticello. Some of the boards are the Southeast Utah Association of Local Governments, the Revolving Loans of Southeast Utah, San Juan Health Service District, San Juan Transportation District, and many more.
My ability to help the city is greatly enhanced by serving on these boards by the many contacts with people throughout the region and the state. Personal connections with people for instance on the CIB board are very beneficial. These associations will continue to help us move forward in the future years.
The most satisfying part of being Mayor is working with and for the many good people of this community, the people serving on our Planning Commission, Victims of Mill Tailing’s Exposure Committee,Airport Committee,Economic Development Committee,Recreation Committee, Parks & Beautification Committee, Golf Course Board, and many more. I have especially been awed by the Swimming Pool Moms and their efforts to bring the new swimming pool to our town. I just attended a preconstuction meeting for the new pool. Wow! The new pool is very nice with many play features for our kids, lap lanes for our adults, something for any water lover.
With your help we have accomplished much, and going forward will keep doing so to make Monticello the best possible community.I would like to ask for your vote to re-elect Doug Allen as Mayor and promise you that I will continue to work hard to serve all citizens of this great city.
Please be sure to Vote November 3, 2009 or you can Vote Early at the City Offices now through Nov. 2.
