The Monticello Rotary Club is starting what they hope to be an annual event this weekend with a Flea Market extravaganza.
A Dutch oven cook off will be held on Friday, September 6 at Pioneer Park on Main Street.
There are three categories for the cook off: main dish, potato, and dessert. Participants can start cooking whenever they feel the need. Judging begins at 6 p.m. Participants must provide their own supplies and can use charcoal or camp burners. No open fires are permitted. Participants may enter more than one category. Prizes will be awarded for each category. Of course, the best prize is bragging rights for the next year as the Best Dutch Oven Cook in San Juan County. For more information, call Wanda Skinner at 435-587-3166.
A Dutch oven dinner will also be available at Pioneer Park on Friday starting at 6. The cost is $7 per person or $25 for a family of four.
The Rotary Club has held an annual flea market in Young’s Theater on Main Street for three years. This flea market starts at 8 a.m. on Saturday, September 7 and will spill over to Pioneer Park and beyond. A bake sale is planned (donations gladly accepted) and local merchants may hold a sidewalk sale.
Sellers must provide their own tables. The cost to sell items in the flea market is $10; businesses pay $25. To reserve space for a table, call Wanda Skinner at 435-587-3166.
While you are at Pioneer Park, stop by and see the newly-refurbished cabin adopted by the Daughters of Utah Pioneers (DUP).
The cabin will be open next spring and summer for tourists to visit. DUP is proud to be a part of the effort to refurbish Pioneer Park and make it a show place in Monticello.
The Monticello Rotary Club is still accepting donations for the flea market. Call Suzanne Anderson at 435-459-3577 or Wanda Skinner.
Proceeds from the flea market and dinner go back into the community. The Rotary motto, “Service Above Self”, holds true as the club continues to serve the people of Monticello. Check out The Rotary Club of Monticello on Facebook and see what fabulous things they have accomplished.
