December 4, 1916 ~ December 4, 2007

Franklin DeVere Halls passed away peacefully on his 91st birthday. DeVere was born in Monticello on December 4, 1916, to Franklin and Elizabeth Halls, the oldest of five children.

DeVere attended school in Monticello; he was the first graduate of Monticello High School. He attended one year of college at Utah State University.

DeVere spent his early life working at the side of his father, eventually taking over the ranching business in southeastern Utah and southwestern Colorado.

DeVere married Margaret (Maggie) Bronson on January 17, 1947. Maggie and their children were a great help in building the family business where they learned the value of honesty and hard work from DeVere’s example.

He was a charter member of the Monticello Lion’s Club and served the community for over 50 years.

DeVere was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Maggie, and his brother Sam. He is survived by his children, Kathy (Jim) Stewart of Wickenburg, AZ, Gary (Donna) and Max (Tami) both of Monticello, and Craig (Debra) of Blanding, 12 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, brothers Bill (Helen) of Elko, NV and Lowell (Keith) Halls of Nacadoches, TX, and sister Merlene (Sally) Garard of Mesa, AZ, and Gwen (Sam) of Cove Creek, AZ, and many wonderful nieces and nephews.

Services were held at the Monticello North Chapel on December 10, 2007.

The family would like to thank all those who have expressed their love and concern through their kind words and deeds.
