The United States has the largest prison population in the world. No nation incarcerates more of its citizens than America, with a full 1 percent of the population behind bars at any given time and more than 10 million crimes committed annually. Taking a closer look at the crimes committed, it is evident that property crimes outweigh violent crime. With that being said, over 1 million violent crimes are committed in the United States each year. How can we fix this? Boston University's Online Masters in Criminal Justice program created this infographic to shed light onto the U.S. prison system and raise awareness for a potential issue facing our country.
