In loving memory of Jason Bruce Shumway.
Jason was born on Fathers Day June 16, 1968, at St. Mary’s Hospital, in Grand Junction, CO. He passed away at 2:10 p.m. on Saturday, February 4, 2017 of kidney failure in Monticello, UT.
Jason was the eleventh child and eighth son of DeVar and Madge Shumway.
In 1973, the family moved from Grand Junction, CO back to Blanding, UT where Madge Shumway still resides along with several other family members.
Jason is preceded in death by his father DeVar Shumway, who passed away November 26, 2009, and by his brother Kerry Rhett Shumway, who died in 1958.
Jason lived in the San Juan County area of Utah since he was five years old. He also owned property close to Dove Creek, CO, where he moved to shortly after the death of his father. He was involved with different stone quarries, working with his father, and would build fireplaces, patios and other landscaping with the stonework.
He also worked for the San Juan County Road Department for a few years and worked in home construction.
Jason was an excellent heavy equipment operator.
He loved to play the guitar and would perform for local dances and other occasions. He enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle, He was competitive with martial arts and was an excellent athlete, especially in track.
He also had many friends and was known for his sense of humor and hearty laugh.
Jason was married twice. Starla Latham, mother of Tiarah, Kieren, and Taven. His second marriage was to Crystal Perkins.
Jason is survived by his four children and one grandson: daughter Tiarah and her son Atticus; and three sons, Kieren, Tayven, and Mikell DeVar. He is also survived by his mother Madge Shumway; brothers Dan, Jim, Joe, Casey, Clark, and Alan; and sisters Sallee, Jill and Jane.
Jason was dearly loved by his family and will be missed by family and friends. Private family services were held in Blanding on February 6, 2017.
