Running for: Monticello Mayor

Hello. My name is Jeremy Hoggard.

I am a lifelong resident of our wonderful community. I am married to StaciLou and have 3 terrific kids Ashley, Breckyn & Charlei.

I have 15 years business management experience, own and run Getgo Signs and have been on the Monticello City Council for the past 4 years. I am running for Mayor because I want a more unified and confident community; confident in our self-sustainability, confident that our “small-town-ness” that we love and hold so dearly can remain, along with growth. I believe I can “step it up a notch”. I strongly believe in responsibility. I believe the Mayor should work tirelessly to find any waste in time, money or resources within the city. A mayor owes this to the citizens. He works for you.

The city is run on YOUR tax dollars and every penny should be cared for. The city budget should work without tax increases. Many think higher taxes bring more to the community. Last fall the proposed 16.9% property tax increase (that was shot down by public outcry) was NOT to give more to the community, but to balance an already broken budget. This is wrong. We should not count on proposed funds from the state as part of our budget and when we don’t get them run to the citizen’s pocketbooks. This is irresponsible. We should not “rob Peter to pay Paul”: there are funds such as the sanitation fund that is a savings account for things such as a new garbage truck that we’ll obviously need some day; taking money from that account to balance another part of the budget is wrong. I know there is waste in how the city operates. It’s time to be honest and caring and smart.

I’ll make decisions based on principles, philosophy and the citizen’s concern, not emotion or political correctness. I want a bottom up, not top down approach to running the city. I want to hear from the people. I want this city that I love, to prosper.

In this big government world I want us as a city to be less dependent. Strings attached to state and federal funds squelch our freedom as a strong and independent people. As the federal government gets bigger the way to fight back is to get smaller, stronger and smarter.

Cast me your vote and I’ll work my tail off for you!
