Lucy Redd, 86, departed this life on Wednesday, September 5, in Bountiful, UT.

She was born July 20, 1926 to L Frank and Nettie Rose Redd in Blanding, UT but soon moved to Monticello, where she spent her youth and attended the local schools.

She graduated from the University of Utah College of Law in 1948 at the age of 21 and was admitted to the Utah State Bar, which recently honored her as #30 of the first 100 women lawyers in Utah.

She served as Deputy Salt Lake County Attorney for eight years and maintained a private practice of law in Salt Lake City for 20 years.

She lived in Washington, D.C. for many years, working as an attorney in the Solicitor’s Office of the U.S. Department of the Interior.

Always fascinated by politics, she served as a Democratic National Committeewoman and was elected Chairman of the Western States Democratic Conference.

In 1964 she was selected to give a seconding speech for vice-presidential candidate Senator Hubert Humphrey at the Democratic National Convention in Atlantic City.

Fun-loving, enthusiastic, and generous, Lucy doted on her numerous nieces and nephews; she was their favorite aunt. She will be greatly missed by them. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Lucy is survived by two loving sisters, Helen (Mrs. Peter Binder) of Alderley Edge, Cheshire, England and Marilyn (Mrs. Doyle Rowley) of Monticello; and nieces and nephews, Teresa Guymon, Jane F. (Conrad) Taysom, Jeffrey A. (Denise) Frost, Spencer H. (Jayne) Frost, Dan S. (Nancy) Frost, Freya S. (Robert) Fletcher, Homer R. (Patty) Smith, Redd H. (Janet) Smith, Don S. (Karen) Redd, Vernon S. (Andrea) Redd, Grayson W. (Jan) Redd, Scott B. (Kathy) Redd, An R. (Jon) Bradshaw, Frank B. (Lynette) Redd, Peter H. M. (Sharon) Binder, Matthew B. (Patrick) Binder, Celia R. (Walt) Baker, Klaire R. (Robert) Dustin, Leslie R. (Eldon) Buchanan, and Eric R. (Brenda) Rowley.

She is preceeded in death by her parents; brother F. Bennion Redd; sisters Maxine R. Frost, Rae R. Smith, Josie (Jo) Redd; and niece Jana R. Young.

A visitation and an informal tribute were held o September 8, 2012. Graveside services will be held at the Monticello City Cemetery on September 15, 2012 at 1 p.m.
