The Monticello Buckaroo wrestlers had a busy week and showed some great moves on their way to a near perfect win over the San Juan Broncos and strong matches at the Juab Tournament.
On Wednesday, the Bucks traveled to Blanding to take on the San Juan Broncos in their first dual of the season, putting on a great show and defeating the Broncos 60-6.
Justin Cecil opened the night with a JV match, winning by fall in the second period over Marvin Lee.
Shandon Bradford led off for the varsity, getting the early takedown and win by fall over Luke Jacobsen in the first period.
Buckaroo Spencer Squires faced Michael Palmer, and earned an exciting pin with less than a second remaining in the second period.
Clayton Westcott got behind early against San Juan’s Braxton Bowring, but came back strong in the second period to win by fall.
Thomas Anderson earned a first period pin over Grange Simpson, followed by Cole Eldredge, who had a big lead against DJ Howell before putting him on his back for a pin in the second period.
Dustin Christensen put another win by fall in the books over Coleman Black, followed by Jose Santana with a first period win by fall over Austin Siayvong.
The Broncos got their only win of the night when Rylie Myrick earned a win by fall against Seamis Barrell. Nathan Moore wrapped things up for the Buckaroos, winning by fall in the first period over Adrian Bitsinnie.
Over the weekend, the Bucks travelled to the Juab Tournament, where they had did well.
In nine duals for the weekend, the Buckaroos earned wins against Timpanogas 51-30, Altamont 39-30, Blackfoot, ID 39-34, Springville 54-24, North Sanpete 48-33 and North Summit 39-36.
The Buckaroos lost duals to Freemont by eight and to Beaver and American Fork by nine points.
Zac Musselman, Brandon Musselman and Cole Eldredge were all perfect on the weekend, finishing undefeated at 8-0, 7-0 and 9-0.
Brayson Wilcox had a great weekend, finishing 5-1 followed by Dustin Christensen and Shandon Bradford at 6-2.
Drew Baird worked hard on his way to a 6-3 record, followed by Spencer Squires at 4-4. Jose Santana brought home two wins by fall and Thomas Anderson earned a win by fall. Seamis Barrell and Nathan Moore also competed for the Buckaroos.
Wrestling for the Buckaroos in the JV tournament were Tyler Draper, earning a first place finish and a 3-0 record; Clayton Westcott finishing second at 2-1; Paul DeAnda, who earned a win; and Seamis Barrell.
Head Coach Kent Adair said the team is coming together well early in the season. This weekend the Bucks travel to the Manti Tournament before heading into the holiday break.
