A marriage has been arranged between a young man and a not-so-willing young lady. She and her true love steal away into the forest to be secretly wed, pursued by the first young man, who is himself pursued by an old flame. Meanwhile, a group of craftsmen meet in the forest to rehearse a play they aspire to perform for the Duke and his new wife. All become ensnared in the careless spells and pranks of the woodland fairies.
