United States President Donald Trump plans to visit San Juan County in early December to announce reductions in the boundaries of Bears Ears National Monument.

The visit to the county was verified by a member of the staff of Senator Mike Lee.

Matt Holton, Director of Business Outreach for Lee’s office, said that Trump will come to the Bears Ears to announce the changes.

Holton added that a reduction in the boundaries of Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument is also likely to be announced.

If so, this will be the first time that a sitting president of the United States will visit San Juan County.

Holton made the statement at a November 1 meeting of the San Juan Chamber of Commerce and Monticello Rotary Club.

He was in San Juan County in part to visit with local residents about economic development issues.

Editor’s Note: Sen. Lee’s office has reached out to clarify that they have not received confirmation that President Trump will be visiting San Juan County this year.

I hope there will be accessible time and venue for all who would like to attend and question the wisdom for this change. Bears Ears was a sacred place for my parents and their ashes and spirits are there. The President should first listen to the concerns of those who have a connection to the area. Zinke has not heard our comments to him.
