The theme of the 2012 fair is “We’ve Got A Good Thing Growin” and will feature a long list of events put together by Fair Manager Anna Thayn and a host of volunteers, including Janalee Grover of Blanding, who is the 2012 Volunteer of the Year.
The highlight of the fair for many is the annual concert on Thursday, August 9, headlined this year by country music legend John Michael Montgomery with opening act Artie Hemphill and the Iron Horse Band, who return from the previous year. Tickets are on sale at several area ticket outlets.
Rodeo fans will get several chances to experience the action with four nights of fast paced rodeo competition starting this Friday with the Blue Mountain Round-up “Bulls and Barrels – Tough Enough To Wear Pink” event at 8 p.m. and continuing Saturday with the Ranch Rodeo at 1 p.m. followed by the Ranch Bronc Riding at 8 p.m.
The following weekend, rodeos will close the fair with the Local Cowboy Games Rodeo on Friday, August 10 and the Blue Mountain Youth Rodeo on Saturday, August 11, each night starting at 7 p.m.
There are also plenty of chances to get dirty at the fair with the Third Annual Mud Bog sponsored by Sandstone Tire on Saturday, August 4 at 10:30 a.m., followed immediately by a new fair event, Mud Wrestling.
A highlight for many will be the annual Mud Volleyball tournament on Wednesday, August 8. The double elimination tournament begins at 5:30 p.m. and rarely ends before midnight, drawing a large crowd and many teams every year.
After a successful test run last year, the 3D Archery shoot will offer shooters two chances to win prize money with shoots on Friday and Saturday, August 3 and 4. Bull Hollow Raceway will feature its second year of team competition on Saturday, August 4, with prize money being donated to charities of the winners’ choice.
Family night at the fair is Monday, August 6, with the minute to win it games and cash prizes and the outdoor movie shown on the giant screen.
Tuesday, August 7 will be highlighted by the Farm Bureau Talent find, Navajo Taco Dinner fundraiser for Monticello High School wrestling, and the hugely successful “Tasters Table” returning for its second year. Livestock shows, children’s fair, inflatables and carnival games all begin on Thursday, August 9 and run through Saturday, August 11.
Offered again this year is the 5K “Race to Midnight” and the All Night Softball tourney, both on Friday, August 10. A highlight of Friday is the “Fun Games” at 2:30 p.m. and the wildly successful “Honey Money Roll for Cash”. The annual Jr. Livestock Auction begins Saturday at 1 p.m.
All four Friday and Saturday fair nights feature a special show including a Comedian, Magician, and stunt man/comedian/juggler.
