The San Juan High School girls soccer team closed out their regular season last week in convincing fashion with wins over South Sevier and Grand at home.

In both games, the Lady Broncos jumped out to a lead and never looked back. On Tuesday, October 1 the girls welcomed the South Sevier Lady Rams to Blanding.

Junior Shae Nielson drew first blood with the first goal of the game, and Jalynn Swenson added another first-half tally to get SJHS rolling.

Goalkeeper Emilie Palmer continued her strong play, shutting down the Lady Ram offense all game.

Brittany Grover added a second-half goal for San Juan and Emily Jacobsen scored two in the final frame on the way to a 5-0 final.

Nielson once again opened the scoring against Grand on Thursday, October 3, and Jacobsen added another to give the Lady Broncos a 2-0 lead at halftime.

Jacobsen scored two more goals in the second half to complete her second hat trick of the year and lead San Juan to a 4-0 victory.

Freshman Ashlyn Palmer made 12 saves in relief of an ailing Palmer for San Juan. Palmer did come on to play the last 20 minutes of the game and made three saves in the shared shutout.

Head Coach Jay Jones said he is extremely proud of how the girls have played in their first year at the varsity level. And the stats tell a tale of a pretty decent inaugural campaign.

San Juan finishes the regular season with a 4-6 record in 3A Region 12, good enough for fourth place behind mainstays Carbon, Emery, and Richfield.

Jones said the team has been gelling very well, specifically down the homestretch of the season.

The Lady Broncos have a bye this week as they get set for the state tournament beginning next week.

The 3A UHSAA RPI that will determine tournament seeding was unavailable at the press deadline.
