San Juan County is proud to present the second annual San Juan Stampede at the San Juan County Fairgrounds in Monticello. The Pro Rodeo will run June 7-9, beginning at 7 p.m. each evening. Gates open at 6 p.m. sharp.

Tickets can be purchased at the gate or in advance at BLC in Blanding and the San Juan Record in Monticello. Single, two- and three-day passes are available.

In June, 2017, hundreds of spectators filled the stands during the two-day event, watching many contestants get thrown off bulls and horses.

With such a great turnout, the county has decided to add an extra day of rodeo action.

Local residents and visitors won’t want to miss this three-day event. Bareback riding, steer wrestling, saddle bronc, barrel racing, and bull riding are a few of the professional events every evening. Local events will also take place on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.

“Not only did we add another day of rodeo, but we basically filled all of the events with professional cowboys and cowgirls,” said San Juan stampede volunteer committee chair Karah Nay. “I look forward to this rodeo and feel like it will be a great one”.

Three of the Utah famous Wright brothers – Jake, Jessie, and Alex – will be attendance. All three brothers have participated in Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) events. Twin brothers Jake and Jessie have made it to the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo six different times and to the RAM National Circuit Finals Rodeo on two occasions. Jessie was also the 2012 World Champion.

Other competitors, like saddle bronc rider Toas Muncy, tie-down roper Rhen Richards, and bareback rider Luke Creasy, will be in attendance.

Many of the cowboys and cowgirls participating in these rodeos have been contestants in the National Finals Rodeo and will likely bring a night full of action.

An up-and-coming great rodeo clown, Dusty Barrett, will also be present. Barrett entered the PRCA in 2014 and completes animal acts such as Roman Riding Ponies, Trick Riding Ponies, and “Squirt Gun” the trick pony.

The San Juan Stampede is a PRCA and Women’s Professional Rodeo Association rodeo and is co-approved with the Mountain States and Turquoise Circuit. The livestock contractor is Bar T Rodeo.

Many local volunteers and sponsors have dedicated hours and dollars in the hopes of bringing this professional rodeo back year after year.
