Ellie Thayn, a junior at Monticello High School, earned second place in the monologue division at the 41st annual Shakespeare Competition, hosted by the Utah Shakespeare Festival and Southern Utah University. Ellie competed against 44 students and earned 27 of 30 superior marks for Queen Katherine’s monologue from William Shakespeare’s Henry VIII. It is the country’s largest scholastic Shakespeare competition, with 3,400 students from 109 schools in five states.
