Student athletes earn All-State basketball honors

Atlanta Black, a sophomore, earned third team honors.
A number of hardworking student athletes were honored when All-State basketball teams were named.

Leading the list is Monticello Buckaroo senior guard Sheldon Black. Black was named to the first team in 1A after leading the Buckaroos to a third place finish at the state tournament.

Teammates who joined Black on the All-State lists are juniors Tyler Bird and Matt Freestone. They were both named to the 1A third team.

Sophomore Atlanta Black led the Lady Bucks to a region championship. She was honored for her efforts by being named to the 1A Third Team.

DiQuan Lopez, a senior at San Juan High School, was named to the 2A second team. Lopez led the Broncos to the state tournament for the first time in several years.

A number of local athletes were named to the Honorable Mention lists, including Raphaela Filfred of the Whitehorse Lady Raiders.

Sergio Morales was honorable mention for the Monument Valley Cougars.

LadyBuckaroos who received honorable mention includes Allie Maughan, Mary Beh, and Michaela Wolford.

Named to Academic All-State teams are McKade Maloy and Monticello High School and Jade Palmer at San Juan High School.
