It was a tragic week for many communities in San Juan County as area residents mourned the loss of community members.

On August 1, Liz Black passed away at a family gathering, Erva and John Eaton were killed in a traffic accident and Mike Crittenden died after a long fight against cancer.

The Monument Valley community is reeling after an early morning accident on August 5 resulted in the death of two recent high school graduates.

Carol Linda Tsosie and Latisha Holiday, two members of the Monument Valley High School Class of 2011, were killed in a car crash between Monument Valley and Kayenta, AZ.

Three other occupants of the vehicle are expected to recover. A combined funeral service is planned. Details had not been released by the press deadline.

Tsosie is the daughter of Carol and Dennis Tsosie. Holiday is the daughter of Lavinia Holiday.
