Two bull elk were shot and left to waste near La Sal Creek in the La Sal Mountains near Moab. The elk are believed to have been shot on the first day of the general spike-only season (October 4). The bulls, a 5x5 and 4x5, were killed within 100 yards of each other.



“This type of behavior gives hunters a bad name,” says Conservation Officer TJ Robertson. “The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources (UDWR) is working very hard to turn the La Sal Mountains into a trophy elk unit, and this criminal act takes out two bulls that could have become trophies in the next few years. If a mistake is made, we can deal with that; but when animals are shot and left, it’s very hard to forgive that type of action.”
