October 13, 1934 ~ June 10, 2013 Fred K. Stocks, age 78, passed away at Moab Regional Hospital on June 10, 2013, in Moab, UT after an extended battle with Alzheimer’s. He was born October 13, 1934 in Moab, UT. He was the second of three sons born to Puge and Lena Ames Stocks. He was raised in La Sal, UT and attended schools in La Sal and high school in Moab, where he graduated as class valedictorian. He began a lifelong career in the timber industry, owning several sawmills at La Sal. Fred earned his pilot’s license at the age of 16 and used his airplane to commute to high school in Moab. In later years, his little yellow Taylorcraft was commonly seen flying around La Sal and the peaks of the mountains and desert areas. He loved working with wood, especially black walnut, and made many tables, lamps, cedar chests, etc. for family and his many friends. Fred is survived by his wife, Brenda, of 34 years; brother Ken (Barbara) Stocks, of Dolores, CO; son Bill (Denise) Stocks, of La Sal; daughter Colleen Stocks, of Olathe, CO; daughter Bobbie (Steve) Crosley of El Cajon, CA; step-daughter Anita (Tom) Keogh of La Sal, step-son Bill (Tina) Griswold of Dickenson, ND; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Fred is preceded in death by his parents; brother Ted Stocks; and son Teddy Stocks. Cremation has taken place, and there will be no services at his direction.
