January 6, 1931 ~ June 6, 2013 Peter James Henderson was born January 6, 1931 in Riverton, New Zealand. Pete attended high school until he was 15 when he decided to go to work. Pete was a truck driver, taxi cab driver, dance band musician, a seaman and also served for one year in the New Zealand Air Force. In 1953, he became a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served as a labor missionary at the Church College in Hamilton, New Zealand. Some of Peter’s proudest accomplishments were his six years of teaching music appreciation to the Maori population. He was a devout, dedicated and involved member throughout his life with duties including Branch Presidency, High Council, and working in the temple. He was school administrator in San Juan County for 33 years, where he worked with the Indian culture. In 1957, he entered the United States and enrolled at Brigham Young University. There he earned a bachelor’s degree in music. Later in life he would return to earn a master’s in music, plus a degree as an education specialist. Peter thought music was God’s special gift to man and always tried to bring an appreciation of music to others. In 1961, Peter married Linda Rae Lund. They are parents to five children: Scott, Todd (Callie), Karamea (Richard), Brett (Kellie) and Ann Marie (Craig). In 1980, he married Melissa Keele. They were united until her death in 2007. In April, 2009, he and Maxine were wed. Although their time together was short, it was sweet. He introduced Maxine to his native New Zealand and extended family in Australia. They also enjoyed travel and cruises together. Both were active and participated in church activities. He was an Adjunct Teacher at the College of Eastern Utah. He was also active with the San Juan chorus for 10 years. He wrote five original musicals, also conducted Handel’s Messiah for 23 years in Blanding. He was passionate and positive in his faith as he held many positions throughout his life for the Church. He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Avis. Funeral services are Wednesday, June 19, 2013 at 11 a.m. at the Little Valley LDS Chapel located at 2079 East 2450 South, St. George, UT. A visitation will be held from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. prior to services at the chapel. Interment will follow at the Tonaquint Cemetery. October 13, 1934 ~ June 10, 2013 Fred K. Stocks, age 78, passed away at Moab Regional Hospital on June 10, 2013, in Moab, UT after an extended battle with Alzheimer’s. He was born October 13, 1934 in Moab, UT. He was the second of three sons born to Puge and Lena Ames Stocks. He was raised in La Sal, UT and attended schools in La Sal and high school in Moab, where he graduated as class valedictorian. He began a lifelong career in the timber industry, owning several sawmills at La Sal. Fred earned his pilot’s license at the age of 16 and used his airplane to commute to high school in Moab. In later years, his little yellow Taylorcraft was commonly seen flying around La Sal and the peaks of the mountains and desert areas. He loved working with wood, especially black walnut, and made many tables, lamps, cedar chests, etc. for family and his many friends. Fred is survived by his wife, Brenda, of 34 years; brother Ken (Barbara) Stocks, of Dolores, CO; son Bill (Denise) Stocks, of La Sal; daughter Colleen Stocks, of Olathe, CO; daughter Bobbie (Steve) Crosley of El Cajon, CA; step-daughter Anita (Tom) Keogh of La Sal, step-son Bill (Tina) Griswold of Dickenson, ND; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Fred is preceded in death by his parents; brother Ted Stocks; and son Teddy Stocks. Cremation has taken place, and there will be no services at his direction.
