Our beloved mother, grandmother and great-mother, Dorothy Carolyn Johnson Nielson, passed away in Provo, UT on January 20, 2011.
Dorothy was born to Christian Willard and Ada Salisbury Johnson in Santaquin, UT on November 19, 1917. She grew up in Nephi, UT. She was educated at Snow College, University of New Mexico and Brigham Young University. She became an elementary school teacher.
Dorothy went to teach in Bluff, UT, where she taught first through eighth grade in a one room school house. Later she became the Bluff Post Master and remained in that position for 25 years.
She met Richard Nielson in Bluff and they were married on November 16, 1940 in Gallup NM. She was much loved by her family.
Dorothy loved the Gospel and held many positions. She taught Gospel Doctrine for 40 years and continued to play the piano for Church and Relief Society throughout her life.
She was active in the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. Dorothy spent her life doing good and in service to others and was generous to anyone in need.
Dorothy loved to travel and she wrote beautiful poetry, which was often published.
She is survived by sons; James (Aldene) Nielson, Ted (Joyce) Nielson, daughters, Carol (Lynn) Wall, Margaret (Howard) Swink, daughter in law Jennielean Nielson, 36 grandchildren, and numerous great and great-great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Dick, son Richard, parents, brothers, and great granddaughter.
Funeral services were held in the Bluff LDS Chapel on Saturday, February 5, 2011.
