The 1,750 rural hospitals in the organization were evaluated on 56 different performance measures, said San Juan Hospital Administrator Phil Lowe. The scores were combined into three key measures of market strength, value-based strength and financial strength. An overall Hospital Strength Index was used to determine the top 100 Critical Access Hospitals.
“As we focus on quality at NRHA, we will monitor a complete dashboard of indicators to ensure that our membership has the best information to run their hospitals,” said Lance Keller, NRHA’s incoming president.
There are three hospitals in Utah among the Top 100, including San Juan Hospital, Heber Valley Medical Center in Heber City, and Central Valley Medical Center in Nephi.
The San Juan Health Service District is completing construction of a new clinic adjacent to San Juan Hospital and a new food services addition to the hospital. Construction is expected to be complete in early November.
