This year has been a great second year for the Monticello High School drill team. The Vaqueras placed first in the hip hop category at two competitions. They received a “most inspirational team” award. Their military dance took second place at one competition, and they were only one point away from placing in their other dances.

Averi Christiansen received first place in the solo category and three girls were nominated for All-State drill team. They were Shaylyn Black, Kaisha Lowe, and Averi Christiansen. Averi Christiansen made the 1A all-state team.

They also are very happy to announce that they had two girls, Toni Torres and Shaylyn Black, receive Academic All-state.

The team had a great performances at state. They received fourth place for both the military and dance category. Overall they took fourth place. The girls have made great improvements this year.

They are breaking into a sport that has been dominated by other teams for years.

The team is coached by Monique Christiansen and assisted by Sidney Young.
