People with diabetes use blood glucose meters (BG meters) to make critical health choices every day, including how much insulin to administer when necessary. Recent studies published in The Journal of Diabetes Science and Technology found that of the 41 meters tested more than half failed to meet global accuracy standards. Inaccurate readings put patients at risk of administering too much or too little insulin, which could lead to severe hypoglycemia and hospitalization. However there are BG meters available to consumers that consistently provide accurate results.
