There are a number of new teachers and administrators in the district, including a new superintendent. Dr. Edward Lyman became the new superintendent on July 1, replacing long time superintendent Dr. Doug Wright. Read an interview with Dr. Lyman on page 18.
Kim Schaefer is the new principal at Whitehorse High School, replacing Brian Dixon. Schaefer has worked as a teacher and administrator at the school for many years, including as the assistant principal at the school in recent years. As a music teacher at the school, Schaefer was named the Utah teacher of the year.
The new assistant principal at Whitehorse High is Russell Lee.
Christine Fitzgerald is the new principal at Tse’bii’nidzisgai Elementary School, replacing Lisa Young.
Construction crews were busy putting the final touches on a number of summer projects, including the remodeling of locker room areas at San Juan High School.
District officials report that in addition to enjoying the time off, many teachers received invaluable in-service training during the summer months.
There are new faculty and staff members at schools around the district. A multi-year trend that continues is significant turnover at the southern schools and relatively stable faculties at the northern schools.
For instance, there is just one new employee at Monticello High School, while there are ten new employees at Whitehorse and Monument Valley high schools.
