Upward Bound is part of the US Department of Education TRIO program which provides opportunities for participants to succeed in their pre-college performance and ultimately in their higher education pursuits.
Each summer bridge students serve the Gentle Ironhawk Shelter by planting in their garden, pulling weeds and cleaning up outside.
UB will also host a Food Drive in Blanding Thursday, June 15 from 7-8 p.m. to help stock the shelter’s pantry. The shelter is in need of: peanut butter, chili, spaghetti (sauce and spaghetti noodles), Top Ramen/Cup of Noodles, breakfast cereals, macaroni and cheese, salad dressings, ketchup, mustard, shortening, cooking oil, cake mixes – but they noted they welcome everything and anything!
During the school year the UB students sponsor service projects at their individual communities in Monticello, Blanding, Montezuma Creek, Monument Valley, Navajo Mountain, and Red Mesa, AZ.
Please have your donated food on your door step and students will be around to pick food up. If we miss you, please take to the Women’s Shelter or call 435-678-2445.
If you have questions about Upward Bound’s food drive, you can contact Teresa Frazier at 435-678-8175 or Molly Worth at 435-678-8182.
Upward Bound wishes to thank you for supporting their community, Gentle Ironhawk Shelter and potential college graduates!
