July 29, 1941 ~ September 7, 2017

William David Utley, age 76, passed away at his home in Ucolo, UT on Thursday, September 7, 2017.

He was born on July 29, 1941 in Reedley, CA to Burnice and Bertha (Doyel) Utley. He is the fifth of ten children.

In 1946, the family moved from Reedley to the Burns/Egnar area to help Grampa Doyel farm.

David went to school at the Peels school and later Dove Creek High School.

He left school after ninth grade to help more on the family farm and to go to work at a filling station in Dove Creek, as the family had many mouths to feed.

David married the love of his life, Vicki Peterson, on April 24, 1963. She brought to this union a daughter, Monica. Together they had a son, Michael, and another daughter, Shelley.

Eventually, Vicki’s parents deeded half of their farm in Ucolo to David and Vicki and that’s where they made their permanent home.

David worked various jobs over the years such as farmer/rancher, welder, truck driver, uranium miner, and mechanic, but the job he enjoyed the most was farming. He loved driving his tractor.

David loved a good joke and told many to his children, nieces, nephews, and grandchildren. Always sure to get a laugh.

He also had a love for country music; he never played anything else! He had many friends and enjoyed visiting at the farm stores when running errands.

David loved spending time with each and every one of his grandchildren and would brag on them every chance he got! He especially loved it when his youngest granddaughter made brownies just for him.

As David got older, his health began to decline. He developed lung problems, back problems, and heart problems. However, he was able to take care of Vicki until her passing in June of 2015. He missed her terribly and would remanisce about her all the time.

After her passing, dementia set in, and he started going down hill. David passed away on September 7, 2017, while resting comfortably on his living room sofa, at his home in Ucolo. One might say he died of a broken heart.

David is survived by his three children: Monica (Ron) Lacy, Michael Utley, and Shelley (Steve) Pruett, six grandchildren: Bethany (Connor) Curry, Jordan Lacy, Jaz (Shelbee) Applin, Kean Applin, Park Pruett, and Neeka Pruett, eight of nine siblings: June (Merlin) Buller, Norman Utley, Frank Utley, Shirley Cressler, Saundra Eastep, Polly (Mike) Mason, Margret (Richard) Pierce, and Roger (Mary) Utley, as well as many nieces and nephews and a sister-in-law Maxine Graves.

David is preceded in death by his beloved wife Vicki, parents Burnice and Bertha Utley, and sister Norma Lee McFarlin.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, October 21, 2017, at 1 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Dove Creek.

Ashes will be interred at the Monticello City Cemetery that evening.
