With the holiday break in the rearview mirror, the Monticello Buckaroo wrestling team will start the second half of their season this weekend.

The varsity team will attend the Pagosa Springs Tournament on Saturday, while the remainder of the team will attend the Durango Tournament.

Prior to the break, the team visited Aztec and Piedra Vista for two duals. The Buckaroos won the dual at Aztec by one point, 37-36, and were defeated 41-32 by Piedra Vista.

The Buckaroos won six of the eleven head-to-head matches, but had three forfeits on the night.

Against Aztec, Brayson Wilcox won 15-2; Thomas Anderson, Justin Cecil, Gage Wilcox, and Zac Musselman all won by fall. Tyler Draper won 8-3 in the final match of the night.

Brevin Olson, Matt Beh, Zach Cecil, and Kayden Draper were defeated in their matches. Dillon Slack received a forfeit. Eldean Lammert was defeated in an exhibition match.

Against Piedra Vista, Kayden Draper, Thomas Anderson, Justin Cecil, and Gage Wilcox won by fall; Tyler Draper won in a 2-0 decision; and Brayson Wilcox won by technical fall 15-0.

Brevin Olson, Matt Beh, Zach Cecil, Zac Musselman and Dillon Slack were defeated.

The next home action for the Buckaroos is January 16, when they will take on Norwood at 6 p.m. at Monticello High School.

The Buckaroos look strong, as they head into this final stretch of the season with the Divisional Tournament coming up February 3, followed by the State Tournament on February 9-10.

Fans should be aware as they make their end of season plans to support the Buckaroos in the post season that the 1A/2A State Tournament will be held at the Sevier Valley Center in Richfield, not at Utah Valley University, as it has been in the past.
