Monticello High School drama students prepare with excitement for the presentation of the first play of the school year, Francis Hodgson Burnett’s delightful story, “A Little Princess.

Sara Crew (Clarissa Jack) is brought from India by her father and placed in a school for young girls run by a stingy heartless woman named Miss Minchen (played by Allison Anderson). When Sarah’s father dies, leaving her penniless, Miss Minchen takes the grieving girl to the attic to room with the other servant and forces them to wait on the other students. What happens to Sarah is the excitement of the play.

The cast is thrilled to be working for the first time on a newly remolded stage which now extends another eight feet into the audience and is painted theater black. The first rehearsals were held on the little stage in the drama classroom and it was a big change to get everything spread out to the new stage.

Other cast members include three sets of siblings, Hannah, David and Katie Boyle, Heather, Wyatt and Haylee Holyoak and Joseph, Janalee and Isaiah Weatherford, along with Sean Killary, Linda Barton, Alex Davis, Shelby Lynn, Sarah Walker, Robin Randall, Mariah Frost, Miriam Reay, Dallin Anderson and Martha Beh.

Helping Mrs. Husted direct the play is Risha Price, with Jace Vail, Nathan Fuller, Darien Ferguson and Curtis Baird working with the crew.

The play will be presented at 7 p.m. October 22, and 23 in the MHS Auditorium. Tickets are $5.
