90 athletes participate in area races
Hillman Triathlon attracts 26 athletes
Matthew Mits was the overall winner of the Hillman Triathlon, which was held on July 9 at Recapture Reservoir near Blanding.
A total of 26 athletes participated in the annual race, which includes a swim in Recapture Reservoir, a grueling bike leg, and a 10K running leg.
Mits had the fastest overall bike leg and running leg and finished the race in 1:25.43, nearly six minutes faster than the next finisher.
Steve Hiatt had the fastest swimming time and finished in second place overall, just seconds ahead of third-place Scott Curtis.
Finishing first in the mens 46-50 category is Chris Monson, and Bruce Griffen is first in the mens 60+ category.
The fastest female is Asia James, who covered the course in 1:39.17. Cathy Tibbetts is the second female to finish, followed by Trish Van Dyke.
In the team competition, the Heck, Endres, Endres team was first overall, followed by the Walker, Hook, Simpson team.

64 racers compete in Pioneer Day 5K race
Daniel Torres was the overall winner of the Pioneer Day 5K race, held on July 23 at Loyds Lake near Monticello.
Torres is the only participant among the 64 racers to break the 20-minute barrier, as he finished the course in 19:45. Jake Green is second overall in 20:47.
Three San Juan Bronco cross country runners finished third, fourth and fifth in 21:17. They are Grange Simpson, Thomas Hook, and Garrett Chamberlain.
The top female finisher is Jessica Walker, who covered the course in 21:31. The second-place female is Roxie Long, while third goes to Alexis James.
Male racers finishing in the top three in age categories are Anthony Done, Tanner Weight, Toren Ramsay, Sean Getter, Kevin Christensen, Logan Boyd, Stephen Barber, Drew Zlotoff, Jesse Broderick, Robert Hatch, Gary Torres and Brian Boyd.
Female racers finishing in the top three in age categories are Adri Bird, Sofie Hook, Rachel Barton, Mariah Harris, Cami Morris, Nicole Bickford, Kendall Dejong, Heather Ipson, Janell Brown, Holly Walker, Jo Black, Des Esplin, Sue Ann Done, and Lillian Bayles.
