Buck wrestlers win big

A new season of Buckaroo wrestling is under way and the Monticello mat men are off to a great start, bringing home a first place team trophy from the Dove Creek tournament over the weekend.
Hunter Bowring, Brian Robinson, Cole Eldredge, Austin Wilcox and PJ Leiataua each brought home first place hardware from the tourney.
Brandon Musselman and Jake Giles worked hard on their way to second place medals, followed by Eric Anderson, who placed third.
Buckaroo Brian Robinson had a stellar tournament, winning every match by fall in under a minute and was awarded the Outstanding Wrestler award for the lower weight classes.
Earlier in the week, the Bucks hosted Grand County in their first home dual if the season. The Bucks were on fire, winning eight matches by fall and defeating Moab in grand fashion, 60-23. Winning for Monticello Hunter Bowring, Daylen Warren, Brian Robinson, Brandon Musselman, Cole Eldredge, Eric Anderson, Austin Wilcox, PJ Leiataua
Ben Barton and Dustin Christensen also wrestled for the Bucks.
In their first week of action, the Bucks traveled to the 23-team Salem Hills Tournament. The Buckaroos earned a 10th place finish behind strong performances from Cole Eldredge and Brandon Musselman. They finished second and Brian Robinson finished fourth.
Jake Giles also finished well for the Buckaroos, with a fifth place finish. Russell Musselman earned a second place medal in the JV tournament. Also wrestling varsity for the Bucks were Eric Anderson and PJ Leiataua and, on the JV side, Isaiah Sharon, Lejon Giles and Brandin Clark.
This week the Bucks will be in action at San Juan High on Wednesday (tonight) at 7 p.m. before heading to the Manti Tournament over the weekend.
