New publication offers 101 ideas for a fun summer
The San Juan Record is delighted to announce the release of a new publication, 101 Ways to Experience San Juan County.
The 64-page magazine is included in this week’s issue of the San Juan Record and will be available at local businesses and visitor centers.
“This publication will provide more than 100 great ideas to see and do while experiencing the spectacular place we call home,” said Bayley Hedglin, executive director of the San Juan Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber of Commerce is a partner in the publication.
The sponsors invite everyone to use the guide to plan a summer of fun and educational activities.
A checklist on page 62 of the guide lists all 101 ideas. Keep track of your progress. The list includes wonderful sites, community celebrations, a few new ideas, and lots of San Juan favorites.
The checklist has two columns, one to check off if you visit this summer and the other to check off if you have completed the task in your lifetime.
So many San Juan County residents and visitors have never experienced some of the world–renowned opportunities so close to home. Read through the book, pick out the top experiences, and get going. If your kids complain that there is not anything to do, tell them they’ve got to be kidding and get them to work on the lists.
Those who can document that they experienced each opportunity this summer can enter our 101 Challenge. The final deadline is October 1.
You will be recognized for your feat and may win a prize or two. Stay tuned for more details of awards for those who complete the most tasks.
Whatever you do, don’t make the mistake of being so focused on checking off your list that you fail to enjoy the wonder of it all.
Every day for the next 101 days, the San Juan Record Facebook page will feature one of the things to do. Feel free to comment and participate in the discussion on Facebook.
In addition, you can follow us and submit photos or video on Instagram. Use the number and title of the activity as the caption on the photo and hash tag it #SJR101. Your Instagram account must be public or visitors cannot view your photos.
The San Juan Chamber of Commerce is a partner in this venture. Over the past year, they have been successful in building a county-wide Chamber of Commerce.
The book is full of spectacular photos, many from readers of the San Juan Record. We thank them for their contributions, participation and photography skill.
Special thanks to the hard-working crew at the San Juan Record, particularly Andrea Montgomery, Jill Slack, Mary Allyson Platt and David Boyle.
