Commission Candidate: Silvia Stubbs

My name is Silvia Stubbs and I am running for San Juan County Commissioner for District 2. The “R” behind my name stands not only for Republican, but also for many more words beginning with “R”. A few are responsible, respectful, reasonable, resourceful, relentless, right minded, receptive, reachable, results driven. My husband and I have made our home here in San Juan County for over forty five years. It has been a good place to call home.
Why I am Running?
I am running because I saw the need to serve and to give the people of San Juan County an opportunity to have a choice.
What Qualify me?
In my life when I saw a need, I found opportunities to take care of it. During my twenty plus years at the College of Eastern San Juan/USU Campus, it was not any different. When children were left in cars, for lack of child care, I created daycares. When college students did not have a place to study and socialize, I collaborated with others, and a place was built. I implemented or created programs to meet the needs of many students, programs such as High School Completion/GED, Job Literacy Training, Early Childhood Education and Pre-Elementary Associate. Many students from Monticello, Montezuma Creek, Navaho Mountain, Monument Valley, West Water, Montezuma Creek, and Blanding, took advantage of these opportunities and benefited from them. As a member of my community I had many opportunities to serve, through volunteering at schools, by serving as the 4th of July Parade Chairman for years, for the Miss San Juan Pageant, and I have also done volunteer service for 12 years plus in White Mesa.
EDUCATION
Spanish Literature (University of Utah.) Early Childhood Associate (College of Eastern Utah/San Juan Campus) Elementary Education (Weber State University) Master in Marriage and Child Development (Utah State University.)
SKILLS
During my years as an employee, as a small business owner and operator, and as a volunteer I have leanrned the following skills: Pesonnel Management, Committee Member for Hiring, Building Construction, and Student Committees. Curriculum Development in Early Childhood and Job Literacy, College Instructor, Grant Management, Grant Design and Collaboration, Programs Management and most of all the skill of being a Team Member.
MY VALUES
As a former educator, I value education. As an immigrant, I believe in the American dream. As a homemaker, I know what inflation is doing to the family budget. I believe in transparency. I am my own person with no outside influence or loyalty In serving I will be guided by common sense, our traditional values, and a firm belief that by working together in unity and cooperating in an environment of respect for each other and the offices we hold, we can provide a brighter and better future for all the citizens in San Juan County. Your vote is not just for me. It Is a vote for creating many opportunities for all the people of San Juan County.
