Commission Candidate: Willie Grayeyes
Yá’át’ééh!
My name is Willie Greyeyes, and it has been an honor to serve you as a member of the San Juan County Commission for the past four years.
I have dedicated my entire career to service - as a public school educator, a trained social worker, a community advocate, and a Delegate to the Navajo Nation Council - and applied that experience and lessons learned to my work for you on the San Juan County Commission.
The people of San Juan County have always been my highest priority.
Working together with our community over the last four years, we have accomplished a lot.
We’ve increased County government transparency and accountability, including making Commission meetings live via internet and Youtube, publishing documents we use to make decisions ahead of time, and encouraging citizen input at Commission meetings.
By working with community partners, we’ve kept voting secure and accessible for all of San Juan County’s citizens.
We have invested hundreds of thousands of dollars into county businesses and infrastructure to offset impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic and fought back against public health misinformation.
We’ve built strong relationships with the sovereign governments of the Ute Mountain Ute and Navajo Nations to benefit underserved County residents and identified new opportunities for collaboration.
We’ve accomplished all this in only four years.
I am seeking reelection to the San Juan County Commission in District 2 because I know over the next four years, we can accomplish so much more.
Over the next four years, it will be my priority to secure state and federal funding to improve San Juan County’s road and water infrastructure, not only in southern San Juan County, but everwhere in the County where updates and new projects are required.
This includes continuing to ensure the County’s support of the Westwater drinking water partnership program, and working with the Utah Department of Transportation to improve highway safety, especially near scenic destinations and viewpoints like Forrest Gump Hill and around Canyonlands National Park.
I will also continue to fight for the safety and health of both our environment and our communities by increasing oversight of polluting industries like the White Mesa Uranium Mill to protect the health of community members in White Mesa and Blanding.
And continuing efforts to improve access to law enforcement across the county by working closely with San Juan County’s new Sheriff and Navajo Nation law enforcement agencies.
Progress for all isn’t just my campaign slogan - it’s what we’ve achieved over the last four years, and what we’ll see in San Juan County over the next four years.
I hope to earn your vote, and I hope you’ll join me in working to make San Juan County an even better place to live.
