San Juan County Fair starts this week

The San Juan County Fair is back with rodeos, auctions, family games and a concert with Country star Joe Nichols.
Running August 1 through August 9 there Ain’t no fun like fair week fun.
The week begins August 1 with the Abajo Enduro. The mountain bike two-day three stage race celebrates its 12th year more info at RoamUtah.com
The evening of August 1 includes the Miss and Mr San Juan pageants at 6:00 pm at the fair grounds.
Mini Miss and Mr San Juan competition for 3-5 year olds and little Miss and Mr San Juan for 6-8 year olds.
The morning of August 2 is the Down n Dirty Mud Bog at the fairgrounds. Registration is open from 9-10 am with vehicles getting in the mud starting at 10:30 am, the event is sponsored by DB Truck & Trailer Repair and Recapture Drilling.
Festivities start back up on Monday August 4 with open class entries received at the fair building from 2-6 pm No 4-H received on Monday.
Fun continues in the evening with the Monticello High Wrestling Navajo Taco Dinner at the fairground pavilion Tickets are $10 a plate or $45 for an immediate family, supper served from 5-7.
A couple of free family friendly events follow in the evening.
The Fairly fun game show night starts at 7 with minute to win it games and cash prizes for the whole family.
The family movie night at the fair starts at 9:00 pm with outdoor seating on the grass. Be sure to bring blankets, pillows and chairs.
Tuesday August 5 open class exhibits and 4-H entries will be received at the fair building from 1-6 pm.
The Mud Volleyball tournament starts up at 6:00 pm. Free to attend and participate teams of 6 or more can enter with prizes to the top teams. Spots are limited so sign up early.
Wednesday August 6 in the morning flowers, baked goods, small animals and produce entries are accepted from 7-9 am, with judging of all fair entries occurring later in the day.
8-10 am are the hog and steer jr livestock weigh in with the lamb and goat jr livestock weigh in from 11 am to 1 pm. The 4-H rabbit and poultry showmanship is at 2:30 pm. Goat roping will take place at 5:00 pm and the evening will wrap up with the Farm Bureau talent Find at 7:00 pm.
August 7 starting at 9:00 am the fair building exhibits will open to the public.
Thursday also includes mini livestock showmanship class at 9 am and market show at 10 am. The junior livestock showmanship classes will start at 11 am.
Fun for children ramps up Thursday with free inflatables from 1-5 pm and the children’s fair on the grass from 2-4 pm.
The fair grounds are cleared at 5:30 ahead of the gate open for the concert at 6:00 pm. The concert in the arena starts at 7:30 pm with Country star Joe Nichols performing with Crazy Coyote performing the opening act.
Tickets are $20 in advance at the San Juan Record in Monticello and RelaDyne in Blanding. Tickets are $25 at the gate with five and under admitted for free.
Friday August 8 will see the fair exhibit open at 9 am along with the market livestock shows.
The children’s fair will run from Noon to 2:00 pm.
Student judging at the livestock barn show ring starts at 1:00 pm
Free inflatables continue from 1-5 pm with Family Fun games from 2:30-5. Earn tickets for a chance to participate in the honey money roll for cash.
Junior livestock awards will be given out at the show ring at 5:00 pm. The arena also will host cowboy games starting at 7:00 pm. Free to the public with no entry fee for teams.
Games include roping events, rescue race, hide races and more with cash prizes to winners.
Friday night is also the all night softball tournament at the ball fields in Monticello.
Saturday August 9 starts with the buyers breakfast from 7-9. with the junior and mini livestock auctions starting at 9 am.
Inflatables, children’s fair and more fun for the kids continues on Saturday.
The week wraps with the Blue Mountain Youth Rodeo at 5:30 with calf riding, mutton busting, pole bending, barrel racing and more.
