San Juan volleyball preview 2014

At the beginning of the 2013 volleyball season, there were a lot of doubts about how good the Broncos would be. Throughout the season, however, the team’s confidence built with every win.
San Juan eventually claimed a region champioship and then made a solid run in the state tournament, falling just short of their ultimate goal as they were bested by Enterprise in the championship match.
In 2014, doubts and fears have been replaced with expectations and goals as the newest group of Bronco netters have set their sights on another championship run. San Juan boasts five returning starters that have Coach Cassy Moon and the Bronco faithful ecstatic about this year’s team.
According to Moon, the five returning starters will be vital to Bronco success. Each of them and their supporting cast of players will have an important role to play in order to be successful.
Players to Watch:
Tatiana Su’eSu’e: The senior outside hitter should be huge and has improved her already-great serve. Offensively, Su’eSu’e looks to return to form as one of the top hitters in 2A.
Jessie Ivins: Setter, the senior was solid all last season and looks to be even better in 2014. Ivins has already shown improvement this year, making great choices and running the offense very effectively.
Jade Palmer: Palmer moves from the front row where she was a solid contributor last season to Libero to help strengthen the Bronco defense.
Coach Moon said, “She enjoys the front row and hitting, but has sacrificed that to help us win.”
The senior also brings a strong serve to the team.
Krista Grover: The junior Middle Blocker is stronger and smarter than last year. Coaches are expecting more kills from her this season.
Sara Morley: Morley has great potential to excel at Outside Hitter. She ended the season well and has increased in knowledge and skill level. Look for her to have a breakout season.
The team this year is more confident than last year. This will be a huge strength to them and should help carry them throughout the season.
Coach Moon said, “Right now, we have that confidence and are working to be great.”
The Lady Broncos take the court for the first time this season at 10 a.m. on August 22, at the Utah Tournament of Champions at Skyline High School in Salt Lake City.
