Devan Radle wins annual Blue Mountain Pioneer Day 5K race

Devan Radle paced the field to win the annual Blue Mountain Pioneer Day 5K, crossing the line in 22:20.1.
His performance was 30 seconds quicker than his run in 2023, which earned him a 14th-place finish.
Radle has some local ties. He is married to Monticello High School graduate Kendyl, who is the daughter of Brian and Kara Boyd.
Jade Grover of Blanding took second in the race when he completed the course 33 seconds behind Radle.
Charlie Welch, who just completed his freshman year at Monticello High School, finished in third place with a time of 25:12.4, winning the men’s 15-29 division in the process.
Stephen Barber of Grandview, MO came home fourth with a time of 25:56.0 and McKay Nielson rounded out the top five with a time of 26:23.4.
Sydney Gover of Blanding put on a strong performance to finish first among the female runners. She crossed the line just eight seconds behind McKay Nielson to take sixth overall and first in the women’s 15-29 division.
Allie Carling, an incoming Monticello High School freshman, won the women’s 1-14 division and took seventh overall with her solid time of 26:43.3.
Monticello’s Robert Hatch was first among men 60-99 when he took ninth overall in 26:56.0. Matt Baldwin of Montezuma Creek won the men’s 45-59 division with his tenth-place run in 26:59.8.
Emmitt Carling won the men’s 1-14 division with his time of 27:32.4, good enough for 12th overall. Roxy Long was 13th and won the women’s 30-44 division with a 27:43.7.
And Sheryl Baldwin came home 14th, winning the women’s 45-59 division in 28:41.0.
The annual race takes place at Loyds Lake and has been contested every year for decades. There have been world class runners compete in the the event in years past. This year however, Connor Mantz, the United States marathon runner with local connections, did not compete as he is Paris preparing for the 2024 Summer Olympics.
