Football Battle of the Drum returns for Monument Valley homecoming

The Whitehorse and Monument Valley football teams will face off in the Battle of the Drum this Friday, September 16 in Monument Valley.
The matchup between the two San Juan County schools will be the first in nearly three years when the Raiders beat the Cougars in October 2019.
The kickoff for the homecoming game is at 7 p.m. and it’s the Friday Night Lights matchup of the week on Redrock 92.7 FM and PictureItPalmer.com
Both teams are coming off losses. Whitehorse was defeated by Ignacio 42-14 on September 9. The Raiders scored on a 33-yard pass from D’Wayne Nakai to Cameron Nakai and on a defensive fumble returned 32 yards for a score.
On September 9 Monument Valley suffered a 60-8 loss to Shiprock.
In the initial rankings of the 8-player RPI Whitehorse is ranked #5 in the state, while Monument Valley is #7.
