Monticello basketball teams get season started

Both Monticello basketball teams suffered losses last week in the early part of the Buckaroo season.
Monticello boys dropped their first two games of the season 84-53 to Grand County and 59-31 against Tabiona.
The Buckaroo boys team opened their season on November 29 hosting the Grand County Red Devils in Monticello.
The Devils built a 14-4 after one quarter, Grand County slightly extended their lead for a halftime score of 35-18. The Devils blew the game open in the third quarter doubling up the Buckaroos to make the score 64-34. Grand outscored Monticello by just one point in the 4th quarter but that was enough to secure an 84-53 victory.
Monticello was led in scoring by senior Landon Ewart who put up an impressive 27 points. Junior Curtis Bunker scored 13 in the game while fellow juniors Mason Atwood had six and JD McDonald added five. Sophomore Kaden Pehrson also scored two points on the game.
The boy's team was right back at it on December 2 hosting the Tabiona Tigers. Again the Buckaroos fell on their home floor by a score of 59-31.
Monticello built a 9-7 lead after one quarter and trailed by 22-19 at halftime. However, the Tigers won the 3rd quarter by a 17-point margin to make the score 43-23 after three quarters, with the final score favoring Tabiona 59-31.
Monticello was led in scoring by Bunker who finished the game with seven points. Ewart had six points while senior Tommy Sheeran scored five and fellow senior Donovan Atwood scored four points.
McDonald finished the game with four points while Mason Atwood scored three and freshman Kooper Nielson added two.
The Buckaroos played in Cortez against the Panthers on December 6 after the newspaper print deadline. The Buckaroos travel to the 1A preview in Richfield this weekend.
Monticello plays Bryce Valley at 1:00 pm on Friday and Tintic at 3:00 pm on Saturday. Both games will be broadcast at PictureItPalmer.com and 92.7 FM.
Both the boys and girls teams travel to Dolores to take on the Bears on Tuesday, December 13. Both games will be broadcast on PictureItPalmer and Red Rock 92.
The lady Buckaroos dropped two games last week falling to Grand County at home on November 30 and to the Tabiona Tigers on December 2.
The lady Bucks were defeated by Grand County 71-40 in Monticello. The lady Bucks also fell to Tabiona 66-25 on December 2.
In the Tabiona game, Monticello was led in scoring by junior Kenlee Atwood who finished the game with six points. Seniors Avery Shumway and Kaymee Freestone each scored five points.
Senior Rosy Beh and junior Jemma Robison each scored four points while Kahryme Alvarado score one point for the lady buckaroos.
Monticello travels to Blanding to take on San Juan on Thursday, December 8, before traveling to Dolores on December 13.
