Monticello boys win one, lose one at the 1A preview

The Monticello Buckaroos went 1-1 at the 1A preview in Richfield. The Buckaroos opened the weekend with a big 76-41 victory over Telos on December 13 in a game the Bucks controlled throughout.
Monticello was led in the game by Cache Young who scored 20 points on an efficient 8 for 9 from the field. Traken Lee score 16 for the Bucks while Kaden Pehrson put in 11 for the Bucks.
Triston Felix scored eight for the Bucks, while Jackson Keyes scored five. Kooper Nielson and Aaron Gillette both had four, while Logan Bowles and Jaeden Camacho each scored three and Seth Taylor had two.
Pehrson led the Bucks on the boards with nine rebounds.
Young, Keyes and Pehrson all recorded three assists in the game while Felix led the team with three steals, and Lee recorded a block.
On December 14 the Buckaroos fell 67-37 to the Milford Tigers. The Bucks trailed 29-18 at half but pulled within six points in the third quarter, a big late surge by the Tigers helped Milford earn the big win.
Monticello was led in scoring by Lee who finished with 18 points while shooting 7 for 10 from the field and three of four from the free throw line. Pehrson added eight points while Keyes recorded seven and Young and Nielson each had two.
Young led the team with five rebounds. Young, Keyes and Pehrson all recorded two assists on the game. Pehrson also recorded four steals and one block, fellow senior Traken Lee also recorded a block.
The Buckaroos played Whitehorse on December 17 after the print deadline. They’re in action this weekend at the Dove Creek Tournament playing the Bulldogs at 6:30 on December 20, and playing the next day at 2:30 or 5:30 depending on the result of Friday’s game.
