Monticello third in 1A All-Sports Awards

Monticello High School teams combined to earn third place in the Utah 1A classification this season in the Deseret News 2024-25 All-Sports Awards. 
The annual award, which the publication has released every year since 1979 except for 2020, denotes the top overall athletic program in each of the six Utah classifications.
Schools earn All-Sports points for placing in the top eight at state. Ten points are awarded for first, eight for second, six for third, five for fourth, four for fifth, three for sixth, two for seventh and one for eighth. Points are divided when teams tie.
Schools earn points in football, cross-country, golf, basketball, wrestling, swimming, baseball, track, soccer, tennis, volleyball, softball, lacrosse, competitive cheer and drill. This was the first year cheer and drill were calculated into the team total.
The Buckaroos earned 63 total points to finish behind Panguitch (92 points) and Rich (74). Panguitch won the 1A award for the 11th straight season.
The Monticello boys were second in the rankings with 33 points, trailing Panguitch by 20 and two points ahead of third-place Rich.
The Buckaroo boys earned ten points for their cross country championship, eight points for their football runner-up performance, six points in golf, five in wrestling, and four in track and field.
The girls team snagged ten points for their golf state title, eight in both cross country and track, and four points in competitive cheer.
San Juan teams combined to score 44 points in 2024-25, finishing ninth in the 2A All-Sports standings. The boys scored 25.5 points to tie for sixth place in their division.
A football state championship netted the Broncos ten points early in the season. They scored six points in both cross country and wrestling, two in track, and 1.5 in baseball.
The San Juan girls earned 18.5 total points – six in cross country, five in wrestling, 3.5 in softball, two in track and field, and two in competitive cheer.
Whitehorse finished 13th as a team, with the girls finishing in 10th place.
The Raiders earned four points in girls basketball and three points in girls cross country, the boys earned 2.5 for football and 2 for cross country.
Monument Valley earned two points in volleyball.
