Monument Valley girls win region title, 3 seed at state tournament, boys host playoff game this Saturday

The Monument Valley High School basketball teams are ready for post-season play in the Utah 1A state tournaments.

Neither teams played in the final week of regular season play, giving the teams extra time to prepare for postseason play.

Monument Valley girls earned the highest seed of local teams in the 1A tournament. The Lady Cougars are ranked third in the 1A girls state tournament.

Monument Valley finished with a record of 13-2, including a perfect 8-0 sweep of Region 23 play. 

The Lady Cougars have a bye through the first round and open play at Richfield High School on Wednesday, March 2, at 7 p.m. Monument Valley plays the winner of a play-in game between Milford and Monticello.

The Monument Valley boys team meanwhile are ranked 11 in the 1A boys state tournament. Monument Valley finished with a record of 8-7, and fourth in Region 23 with a record of 2-6.

The boys basketball team will host a play-in game against Green River High School on Saturday, currently scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. 

The game will be broadcast on PictureItPalmer.com and will be on Redrock 92.7 FM barring a competing game with San Juan at the 2A state tournament.
