The San Juan High School girls soccer team has played very well this season. They’ve been in the fight for most of their games, they’ve enjoyed a three-game winning streak, and their four total wins are the most for the team since the 2020 season.
Unfortunately, in closing two weeks of September the Lady Broncos suffered three losses, dropping to 4-8 on the year. On September 19 they traveled to Moab to close out their season series with the rival Grand County Lady Red Devils.
Grand beat San Juan in the opening game of the season 6-2 but in this contest the Lady Broncos were in the hunt. Brinley Jones and Evelyn McCullough scored goals in the first half and the teams were tied 2-2 at halftime.
But the Lady Red Devils netted two second-half goals to take a 4-2 win on their home turf. Brittany Jensen assisted on both San Juan goals and Colee Crofts made ten saves in goal.
A week later on September 26 the Lady Broncos traveled to Beaver to face the 2A South-leading Lady Beavers. Beaver scored three goals in the first half and San Juan was on their heels for the duration.
Unable to cut into the deficit, the Lady Broncos allowed one more goal in the second half in a 4-0 loss. Two days later San Juan welcomed Parowan to Blanding with a chance to move up in the 2A standings.
But again the Lady Broncos fell into an early hole when the Lady Rams scored twice in the first half. San Juan rallied to cut into the lead with a goal in the second half, but Parowan scored one last goal to secure a 3-1 win.
San Juan is 3-7 according to the Utah High School Activities Association, as one of their wins this season came over a junior varsity team. The Lady Broncos are 11th in the 2A RPI standings.
They’ll play the final four games of their regular season over the course of the next week, all on the road. This Thursday, October 3 they face #16 South Sevier. San Juan beat the Lady Rams 3-0 on September 10.
On Tuesday, October 8 the girls will play two games at #8 Millard. Then they close the regular season with a rematch with #13 Parowan on Wednesday, October 9.
