San Juan High hosts Eastern UT Championship

Four area schools took part in the 2019 Blue Mountain Invitational/Eastern Utah Championship track meet in Blanding on April 26. Teams from Monticello, San Juan, Whitehorse, and Monument Valley competed. In all, nine boys teams and eight girls teams took part in the meet.
In the boys competition, Monticello placed fourth, San Juan fifth, Monument Valley sixth and Whitehorse eighth.
San Juan took fourth, Monticello fifth, Whitehorse sixth, and Monument Valley finished seventh in the girls division.
In combined scores, San Juan finished fourth, edging Monticello by one point, 104 to 103. Monument Valley was sixth and Whitehorse seventh.
In the boys events, first place finishes were earned by Kian Conway of San Juan in the 200-meter and Alan Pettit of Monticello in the 3200.
Second place went to Lucas Hatch of Monticello in the 400-meter, Kian Conway in shot put, Hyatt Todachinnie of San Juan in discus, Cedar English of Monticello in javelin, and the San Juan 4x100 relay team of Conway, Seth Spackman, Lymir Benn, and Jaxon Torgerson.
Other San Juan athletes who placed include Torgerson, third in the 100-meter; Conway, fifth in javelin; Josh Lacy, eighth in discus; and fourth by the medley relay team, including Torgerson, Benn, Spackman, and Cooper Black.
From Monticello, Hatch was seventh in the 100-meter, Pettit was fourth at 1600, English was fourth in high jump, Reed Hedglin was sixth in the 100, Camden Lewis was fifth in the 110 hurdles and seventh in the 300 hurdles, Matt Beh was sixth in the 110 hurdles, Colton Lewis was eighth in the 300 hurdles, and Robert Musselman was fourth in discus.
The Monticello 4x100, 4x400, and medley relay teams all took third.
The Whitehorse Raiders were led by Malakai Sam, who was third in the discus. Deondre Benn was seventh in the 110-meter hurdles and the medley relay team was sixth, including Sam, Benn, Weston Manygoats, and Nicolas Howell.
Athletes from the Monument Valley Cougars include Kaleo Atene, who was fifth in shot put, and sixth in javelin and discus. Henry Wilson was sixth in high jump and seventh in long jump.
Cleve Atene was fifth in discus, Chei Hanley was eighth in long jump, Kody Smith was seventh in the 3200, and Daron Francis was eighth at 3200.
In the girls competition, first place was awarded to Shae Nielson of San Juan in the 110 and 300 hurdles and to Naomi Mantz of Monticello in the high jump.
Second place awards went to Rachel Barton of San Juan in the 110 and 300 hurdles and Ervianne Cly of Monument Valley in shot put.
Donique Atene of Monument Valley placed in three events, including fourth in shot put, seventh in discus, and eighth in javelin.
From Monticello, Taylor Lewis was fifth in the 100-meter and seventh in the 200, Presley Lewis was seventh in both the 100 and long jump, while Makayla Sheeran was fifth in the 110 hurdles and sixth in the 300 hurdles.
From Whitehorse, Kianna Willie was third and Jaynee Chee was fifth in the 3200, ReShunda Jim was fourth in discus, and the medley relay team was fourth, with Kailee Tahonnie, Rhiannon Lansing, Shaunte Dance, and Chee.
From San Juan, Aysia Pehrson was eighth oin the 100-meter; Sadie Jensen was seventh in the 400; Emily Jacobsen, Celeste Hillhouse, and Lydia Pugh were fifth, sixth, and seventh in the 1600; and the medley relay team was third, with Nielson, Maycee Conway, Tasiah Little, and Pugh.
